Halter Marine Delivers First Of Four Supply Boats To Arthur Levy

The Dauphin Island, a 180-foot offshore rig towing, anchor-handling and supply ship, has been delivered by its builder, Halter Marine Services, Inc., New Orleans, La., to Arthur Levy Enterprises of New Orleans, vessel operators in the offshore oil and gas industry.

The Dauphin Island is the first of four supply vessels being built at Halter for Arthur Levy Enterprises.

The vessel has an overall length of 180 feet, a 40-foot beam, a 14-foot draft, and a normal operating draft of 10 feet. Her normal displacement is 1,580 long tons. She is equipped with two EMD 12-567BC diesel engines that produce 1,350 horsepower each at 800 revolutions per minute. They turn two four-blade 90-inch by 70-inch stainless-steel propellers.

Reverse/reduction gearing is Falk LST horizontal offset with a ratio of 2.98:1. Steering gear is electrohydraulic from Matthews Marine.

A double wildcat anchor windlass is aboard, and her auxiliary equipment includes a General Motors 8V71 98-kw generator, an 18-point engine monitoring alarm system, 10 tons of heating and air-conditioning, Quincy motor-driven air compressors, and a Coast Guard-approved fire protection system. Navigation and communication equipment on the ship includes a Raytheon depth re- corder, single sideband and VHF radios, and Decca 914 and 916 radars.

The Dauphin Island is also equipped with a Bird-Johnson 300-horsepower bow thruster for improved maneuverability during loading and offloading.

She is ABS classed Maltese Cross, A-l, AMS full ocean towing, carries a Panama Canal Admeasurement certificate, and is U.S. Public Health approved.
